The Douay–Rheims Bible is a noteworthy English translation from the Latin Vulgate, created by members of the English College in Douai for the Catholic Church. Originally intended to support Catholic doctrine during the Protestant Reformation, this translation has undergone revisions, most significantly by Bishop Richard Challoner in the 18th century. The Challoner revision improved upon the original’s readability while preserving its traditional status among Catholics. Despite newer translations becoming more prevalent, many traditional English-speaking Catholics continue to prefer the Challoner version for its historical significance and textual fidelity.
